Sichuan University is a key comprehensive university directly subordinate to the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, one of the key construction universities in “Project 211” and “Project 985” of the People’s Republic of China and a century-old school with a long historical standing, profound academic deposits and thick humanity atmosphere.

Sichuan University has a long history of art education and a tradition of advocating literature and art. As early as in the 1920s-1930s, it had set up the arts specialties such as fine arts and music to cultivate and convey numerous art professionals for the society. In the middle of 1990s, Sichuan University became one of China’s earliest comprehensive universities that recovered professional art education. After undergoing the organizational system forms of College of Culture and Arts, Arts College (1996), and College of Philosophy and Arts (1998) successively, the organizational system of Arts College was recovered in June 2001.
